Hi Kim. You will like Clint even more after Gran Torino. He does spout a lot of 100 year old racial slurs (including European countries) that don’t even make any sense anymore but that just makes it even more funny. It is not a mean-spirited movie, and he plays an ignorant cranky old man who is redeemed in the end. You will like him even more. Clint is a man who is acutely aware of ethnic diversity, racism, equality, which was evident in Letters from Iwo Jima which he directed (it was about the Japanese side of WWII).

O my gosh. Even though I know that racism is alive and well today when it does rear its ugly head it still catches me off guard. For instance, my MIL ( who is white). Nice woman but she tends to say things without thinking…frequently.

As for Gran Torino, I’d like to see it but hubby is worried that it’ll change my opinion of Clint (We both like him).

Hi Allie, pathetically funny is what I thought too. You’re exactly right. The irony of the anxiety/COPDer is that if they would stop complaining about their breathing for a minute, relax and breathe, they’d feel better. Anxiety and COPD makes a vicious cycle.

Dr. Scott,

I found this entry pathetically funny in a way – I have had many a old racist anxiety-ridden COPD’r who complain, complain, complain in between trying to catch their breath. Sometimes I view them as a challenge in the way that “how can I try to make them say something nice for a change?” Usually I pay them no mind, give them their meds and move on with my day (and thank god I gave up smoking 10 years ago).

Bonnie, good point. Dementia may be a part of it, but this old lady seemed to be critical of everything. She likes me though.

Cindy, yep, I said it because it was true and she knew it.
