Ooseung is thankful for the practical things.

Ooseung is thankful for her house as you can see.

What she is not thankful for is the mole or beauty mark she used to have to the left of her nose. Apparently this week she scratched off her own mole. It’s just a little red scab now, as seen in the pic above. Amy was a bit upset about it.

AMY: She’s had that beauty mark her entire life, and now, it’s gone.

ME (to myself): Her entire life is three years.

On the plus side, if Ooseung’s anything like the other Corean females in Amy’s family, our girl saved herself $150 in mole removal fees.

:-))))

EARLY FATHER’S DAY PRESENT

I love this turkey assignment that Sun Su did at school.

AMY (exasperated expression): Dad is easier to write. That's why.

ME: Easier to write than mom?
Sun Su is not thankful for the eyelash that makes his eye itchy at night. Today it got inverted into his eyelid and wouldn't rub out. Now, I've done chest compressions on people with cracked sternums, I've had my gloved hands on a pulsating brain in the O.R., I've waded into hospital rooms suffocated with fresh fecal and month old yeast aroma. But trying to remove an inverted eyelash from my little boy's eyelid had me almost as freaked out as Sun Su. While Amy intrepidly went after the lash with a wet Q-tip, I was holding Sun Su as much as he was holding me.SUN SU (crying horribly): No, umma! Nooo! Just do it! Do it now!AMY: It won't hurt Sun Su. I just need to get the lash out.

ME (squeamishly): Quick strokes. Let him blink! Get it out! Let him blink now!

Everything turned out fine, but this whole inverted eyelash thing seems to be a recurring problem. It's more common in Asians due to the shape of the eyelids and folds. Sometimes it requires surgical correction, Asian blepharoplasty or "ssang kka pul" in Corean. Although more commonly it's done to make Asian eyes look more Western, i.e. wide-eyed with the double-eyelid fold. I just hope he grows out of it.

You can keep the kids out of Corea, but you can't keep the Corean out of the kids, I guess. For better or for worse?

Maybe I can be thankful for that.

TIRED

I was up all night answering so many pages last night that I seriously contemplated just going back to the hospital at 4 a.m. and getting it over with. I work the four days before Thanksgiving, the day of Thanksgiving, and the four days after. I'm on call again Friday. My first two days off next week will be spent recertifying in advanced CPR. The joy never ceases.

I'm in that sleep deprived fog where words, thoughts, connections are too slippery to grasp lucidly especially with writing.

I have no point. I'm just tired. Of this.

I wonder if Sun Su’s hair will be flat or wavy when it grows out.
